When the visor goes down, Max Verstappen’s focus is purely on racing with the Red Bull star collecting his third consecutive World Championship in record-breaking fashion last year. However, away from F1, the Dutchman is a family man who enjoys spending time with his close inner circle and indulging in a life of multi-millionaire luxury.
With an annual salary in the region of £55million ($70m), Verstappen has the luxury of being able to afford pretty much any lavish lifestyle item, vehicle or property that he wants. The three-time world champion is now the highest-paid driver on the grid after eclipsing legendary rival Lewis Hamilton with his World Championship bonuses.
Verstappen has put his fortune to good use over the course of his career, but his standout purchase remains his custom-liveried private jet. The plane – which is a Dassault Falcon 900EX – was purchased from business icon Richard Branson for a sum of £11m ($14m) in 2020.
On top of the initial outgoings to purchase the jet, Verstappen also has to spend up to £1.6m ($2m) to fuel and maintain his private plane service. However, in return, he gets to travel to and from Grand Prix weekends with his closest friends and family in complete luxury.
This is, of course, when he isn’t camped out at his luxury penthouse apartment in Monaco. Living in the principality is not unusual in the world of F1 given its tax haven status and strict rules regarding security and paparazzi presence.
A total of eight current F1 drivers live in Monaco, with both Verstappen and long-time rival Lewis Hamilton sharing the same Fontvieille district. Unlike the Mercedes star, the Dutchman does not own his £13.4m-rated property, instead opting to rent.
When he’s not enjoying time on his simulator rig or live streaming to his fans, Verstappen is often spending time with his girlfriend Kelly Piquet. The 26-year-old has been dating the Brazilian model – who is the daughter of three-time world champion Nelson Piquet – since 2020 and has a close relationship with her young child Penelope.
Piquet was previously in a relationship with former Red Bull and AlphaTauri driver Daniil Kvyat, with whom she had her first child in 2019. However, five months after Penelope’s birth the pair split up. She went official in her relationship with Verstappen at the beginning of 2021 after a period of dating.
