Daniel Ricciardo gives Lewis Hamilton advice

Daniel Ricciardo has suggested Lewis Hamilton may try to “hang on” to a Formula One seat as he is “scared of what happens next”.

Hamilton has reportedly asked for a five-year contract extension but Mercedes bosses are thought to have handed him a shorter deal.

But discussions between Hamilton and the team are ongoing on some smaller details.

Ricciardo was asked to weigh in on Hamilton’s situation ahead of his own F1 comeback this weekend.

He told Crash.net: “When you’ve lived on this awesome, euphoric level for so long, the thought of losing that is maybe scary. And I understand that. As long as that’s not the thing stopping you from retiring then you are okay.”

Vettel teases F1 return at Goodwood

Sebastian Vettel has suggested he could be closing in on a return to Formula One after retiring last season.

The four-time world champion refused to rule out a role at F1 or the FIA to improve the environmental image of the sport.

It’s a topic Vettel is passionate about with the German even converting Nigel Mansell’s 1992 world championship-winning Williams to run on sustainable fuels.

“We’ll see but I have some ideas,” he replied when asked by PlanetF1.com about a possible role within F1. “I’ve been to Monaco earlier this year. I had a very good meeting with [F1 president] Stefano [Domenicali].”
