Manchester United told to ‘sign Max Verstappen’ as he’s the Lisandro Martinez of Formula 1

The football and F1 worlds have collided once again this week with Tottenham forming a partnership with the racing competition’s owners.

And now, F1’s Verstappen – who is set for another promising season which begins this weekend in Bahrain – has been told he’s exactly the kind of person Man United need in their transformation under Erik ten Hag.

That’s according to talkSPORT co-host Dean Saunders, anyway.

The ex-Wales striker was discussing this weekend’s Bahrain Grand Prix on talkSPORT Breakfast with Alan Brazil, and the Scotsman expressed his love for the Dutch driver.

“I’m a big Verstappen fan,” Brazil said, “Not because he wins all the time, its his guts.”

“He’s a winner,” Saunders agreed, “Man United could sign him, he’s like the Martinez of the Formula 1 world.”

Martinez helped Argentina win the 2022 World Cup in December and his no-nonsense performances at the back for the Red Devils this season have played a huge role in keeping his side in the title race.

And it’s clear Saunders sees similarities between the personalities of the Argentine on the pitch and back-to-back world champion Verstappen on the track.

The Welshman then asked Brazil if he could win an F1 race if he got in one of the superstars’ cars.

“No,” Brazil laughed.

“I might get in the car but I wouldn’t get back out of it!”
